Ceramic Coating
A second clearcoat, ten times harder than the first.
Brands we install — Owners Pride · System X · Feynlab
A liquid polymer that bonds to paint, glass, wheels, and trim — sealing the surface against marring, UV, and chemical staining for years instead of months. Cecil installs Owners Pride, System X, and Feynlab self-healing tiers.
What ceramic coating is, in plain language
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to all exterior surfaces. As it cures, it bonds to the clearcoat and forms a transparent, hydrophobic shell — roughly ten times harder than the factory finish. It is not bulletproof. It will not stop a deep gouge from a runaway shopping cart. What it does, with quiet consistency, is shrug off marring, water spots, road salt, bird droppings, and the slow oxidation that fades a dark color over a single Indiana summer.
Wax sits on top of paint and wears off in weeks. A ceramic coating becomes part of the surface and lasts years.
How it changes the way you live with the car
The first thing you notice is the way water behaves. Beads form so tight they almost roll off the panel before you can towel them. Dirt does the same: a quick rinse takes care of what used to be a wash and a chamois. Bug splatter wipes away. Brake dust lifts off rather than etches in. Wash days get shorter, and the gloss between washes stays consistent — no haze, no swirl marks, no dull spots under the streetlights.
What gets coated
- Paint — the headline application; full-body protection.
- Wheels — stops brake dust from baking into the finish; faces clean with a hose.
- Glass — rain sheets off in motion; wipers run dry less often.
- Trim and plastic — restores depth, prevents the chalky-grey fade.
Why we only install tier-one chemistry
A coating is only as good as the prep underneath it and the chemistry on top. Cecil works with Owners Pride, System X, and Feynlab — three brands trusted by show-car and pro-detailer circles. We don’t use house-label coatings. The materials carry the warranty, which means the materials aren’t negotiable.
Step by step, measured at every stage.
- 01
Strip wash.
Two-bucket wash with pH-stripping shampoo and a foam-cannon dwell. Removes existing waxes and sealants so the next stage works on naked clearcoat — not on whatever was put on at the last detail bay.
- 02
Decontamination.
Iron remover dissolves embedded brake dust and rail dust. Clay bar pulls the bonded contaminants the wash leaves behind. Glass and wheels get the same treatment so every surface starts smooth.
- 03
Paint correction.
Machine polish under controlled light. One, two, or three stages depending on defect depth. Clearcoat thickness is measured before and after — micron-tracked, not eyeballed.
- 04
Surface prep.
IPA wipe-down strips polishing oils. Panel-wipe primer ensures the ceramic chemistry bonds to bare clearcoat. No residue, no contamination, no shortcuts.
- 05
Coating application.
Owners Pride, System X, or Feynlab — applied panel by panel under raking light. Layered to manufacturer spec, leveled while it flashes, and never rushed.
- 06
Cure and verify.
Cured to manufacturer spec, then verified before the vehicle leaves the bay. The warranty starts when we hand you the keys.
A second clearcoat, ten times harder than the first.
Cross-section through a coated panel. The brass layer at the top is the ceramic shell — chemically bonded to the clearcoat, not waxed on.
